Othello — The Othello Farmers Market and Othello Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Seahawks tailgate party in Pioneer Park in Othello on Thursday, Oct. 3. The event is free to anyone wishing to attend.

The tailgate party is being held in conjunction with the Othello Farmers Market, which is held Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. at Pioneer Park on Main Street in Othello. The Farmer’s Market runs through Oct. 24 this year.

“The Othello Farmers Market, provides a weekly selection of fresh produce, quality foods, quality crafts, traveling clothing boutique and food vendors,” said Sharon Skorick, Othello Chamber of Commerce manager. “The market has been growing slowly year after year, thanks to our local vendors.”

Next Thursday evening’s Seahawks game against the Rams will start at 5:20 p.m.

“A limited amount of bleacher seating will be available,” Skorick said. “Plan on arriving early. You’re encouraged to bring your own chairs.”

Tailgating spots are also available by reservation with a $20 donation. Barbecuing is allowed in these spots.

At halftime, the Chamber will be raffling off items. One of the items up for raffle are tickets to the Seahawks/Ravens game on Sunday, Oct. 20. Tickets for the raffle are $10 and will be available at the chamber office or at the farmers market. Other items on raffle are a Seahawks cinch bag with a towel, Seahawks outdoor solar light, Seahawks metal art and Seahawks lighted sign.

The chamber will also be giving away swag bags with treasures and coupons to the first 50 people who visit the chamber booth at the farmers market next Thursday.

Families are encouraged to come enjoy the game together. Food will be available at the farmers market. No alcohol will be allowed in the city park.

“Plan to stay for dinner,” said Skorick. “Food selections will be tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, elote, menudo, horchata, alfresco, cotton candy, pizza, sno-cones and baked goods. Stop by and visit our local farmers market produce or food vendors. Fresh produce is available to purchase. There are many hand-crafted items, jewelry, cut flowers and live plants.”

The Seahawks game will be streamed in Pioneer Park by Northland Communications. For any additional information, to purchase tickets or reserve a tailgating spot, please contact the chamber at 509-488-2683.

Othello looking for donations for annual Christmas baskets

OTHELLO — About 45 years ago, four volunteer firefighters decided to make Christmas food and gift baskets and give them to seven families who needed some extra help. The next year, they gave baskets to more families. In the years since, the Othello Community Christmas Baskets has become a city-wide event with various groups raising money, food, warm clothes and toys for Othello families in need.
