Gonzaga women capture tourney

at Cd’A Resort Golf Course

COEUR d’ALENE — Gonzaga women’s golf took home the team title with three players in the top 10 at the 16-team Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course on Tuesday.

The win in windy, cool conditions at The Resort was GU’s first team tournament victory since April 2014 at The Gold Rush.

Jessica Mangrobang and Alyssa Nguyen finished in a three-way tie for third to lead Gonzaga. Mangrobang shot 71-69-76—216, 3 over par, and Nguyen shot 74-70-72.

Marie Lund-Hansen of Washington State (71-71-74) also tied for third. Valeria Patino of Idaho was originally reported to tie for third. But a few hours later, Patino was disqualified for an invalid scorecard. The change added 10 strokes to Idaho’s team score, taking the Vandals from a fifth-place tie to an eighth-place tie. Gonzaga won by four shots over BYU. Nevada was third, four strokes back. WSU finished fourth.

Allysha Mae Mateo of Brigham Young won the tournament, shooting 70-74-68—212, 1 under par. Katy Rutherford of Nevada finished second, shooting 72-71-72—215, 2 over par.

Boise State, UCF schedule

home-and-home series in football

BOISE — Boise State has scheduled a home-and-home football series with the University of Central Florida, athletic director Curt Apsey announced Tuesday.

The Broncos will open week one of the 2021 season at Spectrum Stadium in Orlando, Fla., and the Knights will make the return trip to Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Sept. 9, 2023.

Boise State and UCF have not previously met in football.

To accommodate the series with UCF, the Broncos have moved their 2021 game at Houston to the 2025 season, and their 2023 game against Rice to 2029.

For the 2021 nonconference slate, the Broncos will now play on the road against UCF and BYU, and home games against UTEP and Oklahoma State. In 2023, nonconference tilts will be played at home against both Oregon State and UCF, and on the road against Michigan State and BYU.

Boise State has played just two games against the American Athletic Conference, going 2-0 against Connecticut. However, against schools that currently comprise the league, the Broncos are 10-1 all-time. Boise State is 6-0 against Tulsa, and 2-0 against both SMU and UConn. The only blemish came against East Carolina in the 2007 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
