POST FALLS — Sandpoint volleyball was unable to end its three-game losing streak Tuesday as they fell to Post Falls and Genesis Prep.

The Bulldogs played Post Falls first and lost convincingly 11-25, 15-25, 9-25.

“We were a little bit more peppy and vocal then we were against Lewiston so that was good,” Sandpoint volleyball head coach Karen Alsager said. “But I’m kind of concerned that our mental toughness seems to be slipping away.”

Senior outside hitter Jenny Slaveck led the Bulldogs with eight kills and three digs while junior middle blocker Gabby Hicks tallied five kills.

Junior setter CeCe Deprez did her part with two aces and nine set assists, and senior Aly Lish bolstered the Bulldogs defensive effort with five digs and two blocks. Junior middle blocker Bella Phillips had two blocks as well.

“[Post Falls] served tough at us so we got mentally down on ourselves ... and they hit at us really hard and fast so our blockers were late which made it hard to play defense,” Alsager said. “They’re a good team.”

In the second match of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs were able to win a game for the first time in four matches. Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough as Sandpoint fell to Genesis Prep 11-25, 16-25, 25-22, 17-25.

After the second set against Genesis Prep, Alsager decided to shake up the players she had on the court.

“I decided you know what if were not playing hard enough to pull this out I might as well play my bench,” she said.

So Alsager brought in sophomores Lauren Breuner and Tori Pelkey and junior Katie Stewart. The result was a victory in the third game.

“That was exciting for them to come in and play hard,” Alsager said.

Gabby Hicks, CeCe Deprez and Sam Koster each led the team with nine digs. Hicks also collected four blocks and nine kills.

Jenny Slaveck continued her strong play with seven kills and junior setter Kaylee Banks picked up 15 set assists.

The Bulldogs will look to stop their five-match losing streak this Saturday at the Linda Sheridan Classic.
