BONNERS FERRY — U.S. 95 was closed around milepost 518 on Friday, Sept. 20, shortly after 12:30 p.m., while firefighters battled a trailer fire.

“It was a truck hauling hay from up north, and they came down through Rock Creek, and the trailer caught on fire with a load of hay,” said North Bench Fire Chief Gus Jackson.

North Bench Fire responded, with auto aid from Paradise Valley Fire and South Boundary Fire and they called for mutual aid from Hall Mountain Fire. Boundary Ambulance and the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office also responded. Idaho State Police took over the scene.

“It was a great show of cooperation and teamwork between agencies in Boundary County,” said Jackson.

Upon arriving on the scene, the trailer and the hay were already fully involved. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire. Jackson said that he believed the fire to have been started by mechanical failure. No one was injured.
