SPOKANE — Coeur d’Alene defeated Sandpoint 25-15, 25-15 in the match for ninth and 10th places at the 64-team Linda Sheridan Classic on Saturday.

Earlier Saturday, Coeur d’Alene beat Bellarmine Prep 25-18, 22-25, 16-14, beat Orting 25-14, 25-19, lost to North Creek 20-25, 25-21, 15-8, beat Jackson 25-23 and beat Lewis and Clark 25-12.

Elly Schraeder had 29 kills and 15 blocks on the day for Coeur d’Alene (17-5). Taylin Rowley had 23 kills and 24 digs, Maddi Symons seven aces and four blocks, Lauren Phillips and Courtney Garwood 39 assists each, Maggie Bloom 23 digs, Emma Fahy six aces.

Tahoma defeated Lake Stevens in the championship match. Mt. Spokane and Richland tied for third, and Mead finished in a four-way tie for fifth.

Other local finishers: St. Maries T-13th, Kellogg T-27th, Bonners Ferry T-29th, Lakeland 34th, Lakeside T-61st.

Lake City ties for

third at Rocky tourney

MERIDIAN — Janae Rayborn had 45 kills for the Timberwolves, who finished tied for third in the Rocky Mountain Classic at Rocky Mountain High.

Lake City (10-4) lost 25-20, 25-14 to Timberline High of Boise in the semifinals.

Earlier in the day, Lake City beat Centennial 26-24, 25-18, split with Rocky Mountain 25-10, 13-25 and lost to Boise 25-23, 25-19.

In bracket play, Lake City beat Fruitland 25-22, 25-22 before losing to Timberline.

“Our blocking improved from what it had been in recent games,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “Some teams were hitting hard, so it was good to get those touches on the ball. Our big thing was getting to see where we stacked up against the other teams in the state. At this point, we’re right with them.”

Nellie Reese had 87 assists and Jaya Miller 37 digs for Lake City, which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.
