SANDPOINT — Bonner County recorded no new cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, according to the Panhandle Health District.

There are a total of 31 cases in the five northern counties and all but one are located in Kootenai County, the health district reported. Sixteen of the diagnosed cases involve people who are above the age of 50, while 12 are in the 19- to 49-year-old range. Three of the cases involve minors, the health district said in its update.

Seventeen of the Panhandle cases involve men, while 14 involve women.

Bonner County’s lone case was initially reported to Bonner County Emergency Management as a case of community transmission, but later revised the report to indicate it was not as a result of community transmission, according to a post to Bonner County’s Emergency Operations Center Facebook page.

Health district spokeswoman Katherine Hoyer said community transmission of COVID-19 is occurring in Kootenai County, meaning they were not connected to travel in affected countries and states or contact with a confirmed case.

“We continue to urge the public to adhere to the stay-home order made by Governor Little. We know practicing social distancing strategies can slow the spread of this virus, but we need everyone to do their part,” Hoyer said in a news release.

Epidemiologists with PHD are working to investigate cases of possible contact. All household members of confirmed cases have been asked to self-isolate at home for a prescribed period of time. If other people are found to have been exposed, health officials will provide guidance to these individuals and they will be asked to self-monitor for the development of symptoms.

“PHD will continue to monitor the situation closely and are working with the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare, city and county leaders, schools, emergency management, healthcare providers, and our community at large to help prevent the spread of this virus,” said Hoyer.

Statewide, there were 525 confirmed cases, according to the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare. Two counties — Ada and Blaine — have nearly 200 cases each.

Of the 525 cases, 265 people are above the age of 50 and 255 are between the ages of 18-49. There have been 46 hospital admissions as a result of COVID-19, seven of which landed a patient in an intensive-care unit, Health & Welfare said.
