Energy Keepers, Inc. (EKI) entered into an agreement in February to sell 40 MW of carbon-free power to Puget Sound Energy, a Washington state utility, for the next 15 years. The power began to flow from the Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe’ hydroelectric project March 1, helping Puget Sound Energy meet their long-term goals of deep decarbonization, EKI announced in a March 25 release.

“We are committed to supporting a clean energy future through the operation of the SKQ project and the marketing of its renewable generation, as well as the potential development of new clean energy resources,” the notice said. The power is expected to replace coal-fired electricity from the Colstrip Power Plant after 2025.

Montana Public Radio cites an Energy Keepers official saying EKI is also picking up several large Montana customers who previously bought electricity from Talen Energy, the company selling the Colstrip plant’s power as companies move away from carbon-based energy.
