MEDIMONT — The Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of a fire that burned a Medimont summer cabin to the ground Tuesday morning.

Shoshone County Fire District No. 2 Chief Mark Aamodt reports that crews were toned out to the incident around 9:12 a.m. on Tuesday.

The cabin, a 1970s A-frame structure with no insulation, was first seen to be on fire ironically by a SCFD No. 2 volunteer firefighter from his own home. This volunteer and two other members of the SCFD No. 2 Medimont house were the first on scene at 14814 S. Klein’s Medicine Trail with their fire engine around 9:20 a.m.

While this initial response crew succeeded in limiting the spread of the fire, the unoccupied cabin was already completely engulfed in flames when they arrived.

When crews from Rose Lake, Pinehurst and Kellogg arrived around 9:35 a.m., the structure had completely collapsed.

Aamodt believes the structure had been burning for a considerable amount of time even before the volunteer first saw the smoke.

With no human or animal lives at risk, crews utilized two hose lines from their vehicles to cool off the debris and limit the spread of the flames.

After a few hours on scene, firefighters were successful in suppressing the fire and containing it to the original affected structure.

Aamodt credited the Medimont team after the incident for their speedy response.

“That first group from Medimont did an outstanding job by keeping the fire contained,” he said.

Deputy Fire Marshal Jason Blubaum went to the scene Thursday to inspect the damage and determine a cause. As of Thursday, the cause and point of origin are unknown.
