PORTHILL — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is temporarily reducing the hours of operation at the Port of Porthill, beginning Monday, April 6. The Port of Porthill is currently open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, but will change to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

According to a press release from CBP, the early closure is due to a significant reduction in privately owned vehicles and pedestrian traffic along the northern border since the “essential only” travel restrictions were imposed on March 21.

“Reducing the hours of operations at ports of entry along both land borders will allow CBP to continue to provide service to these communities as we work to keep our employees safe from exposure and community spread,” the press release stated.

These reduced hours will remain in place until April 30, or until the Administration lifts the current travel restrictions. CBP will return to previous hours once the COVID-19 emergency has subsided.

Until then, travelers that are considered essential will need to adjust their travel schedule to accommodate the new hours of operation.
