SANDPOINT — A three-way race has formed in the hunt for the GOP nomination for the District 1 seat on Bonner County’s board of commissioners.

Incumbent Commissioner Steven Bradshaw will face Tommy B. Horton of Sagle and Jason R. Giddings, also of Sagle, in the May 19 primary election.

The victor in that contest will go on to face Steven R. Johnson, a Sagle Democrat, in the Nov. 3 general election.

Incumbent District 2 Commissioner Jeff Connolly, a Priest River Republican, is a shoo-in for his party’s nomination and is running unopposed in the general election.

Incumbent Sheriff Daryl Wheeler and incumbent Prosecutor Louis Marshall, both of whom are Republicans, are in the same boat as Connolly — they’re running unopposed during the coming election cycle.

In state legislative races, Cocolalla Republican Gary Suppiger is challenging incumbent Rep. Sage Dixon for the GOP nomination in the Position B seat in the Idaho House for District 1. The winner of the nomination will face Bonners Ferry Democrat Stephen F. Howlett.

The races in Legislative District 7 will be determined in the primary. Incumbent Rep. Priscilla Giddings, a Republican from White Bird, is being challenged for her party’s nomination in Position A House race by Dennis Harper of Orofino. In the Position B race, Sandpoint Republican Cornel Rasor and Charlie Shepherd of Pollock are each vying for the GOP nod.

Incumbent District 1 Sen. Jim Woodward is running unopposed for the Republican nomination, as is incumbent Rep. Heather Scott. Woodward is being challenged by Hope Democrat Vera Gadman in the general election and Scott is being challenged by Sagle Democrat Gail Bolin.

Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Risch is running unopposed for the GOP nomination, while Plummer Democrat Paulette Jordan and Eagle Democrat Jim Vandermaas are competing for their party’s nomination. Also on the primary ballot in this race is Constitution party candidate Ray Writz of Coeur d’Alene. Independent Natalie M. Fleming of Fruitland will appear on the general election ballot.

In the race for the U.S. representative for District 1, Boise Republican Nicholas Jones is looking to unseat incumbent Russ Fulcher of Meridian in the primary. Staniela Nikolova of Moscow and Rudy Soto of Nampa are seeking the Democrat nomination for the District 1 representative seat. Libertarian candidate Joe Evans is also on the ballot in the primary.

Idaho Supreme Court justices Gregory W. Moeller and John R. Stegner are in nonpartisan succession elections, as is Idaho Appeals Court Judge Amanda Brailsford.
