Othello detective helps reconnect mother and daughter after two years

OTHELLO — Othello Police Detective Jamie Mendoza, with the help of federal authorities, was able to help locate and bring home a girl who had been missing for two years.
The Othello Police Department chose not to divulge any names or details in the case to protect the identities of those involved.
Two years ago, a 13-year-old girl went missing. On March 24, Det. Mendoza was able to witness the reunion between that girl and her mother after helping to bring her home.
Othello Police Chief Phil Schenck said this is a case Mendoza has worked on closely for years and said the Othello detective was “thrilled” to be able to bring her home.
“Without fail, he found some leads that led him to believe she was in Mexico, contacted federal authorities to assist us, and they were able to find her and recover her, reunite her with her family,” Schenck said.
