GRANT COUNTY — There are 122 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Grant County as of Monday evening, with one new case reported each in Moses Lake and the Mattawa area, according to the Grant County Health District.

There are also 28 “probable” cases, which includes people with symptoms of the virus who have had close contact with a person known to have been sickened with COVID-19.

Seven people sickened with the novel coronavirus are currently hospitalized, up by one since Sunday, and at least three people have recovered from their previous hospitalization. Twenty-eight people have recovered enough to no longer be placed under quarantine, the health district reported Monday.

Quincy remains the epicenter of the outbreak in the county, with 47 confirmed cases total. Moses Lake and the Mattawa area have also seen significant growth in recent weeks, with 22 and 26 confirmed cases respectively as of Monday evening.

Ephrata is reporting twelve confirmed cases, Royal City is reporting six, Warden and Soap Lake are each reporting four, and the Grant County portion of the Othello area is reporting a single case. The Coulee City area and Grand Coulee/Electric City have not had a single confirmed case from their community, according to the health district.

In addition to tests that have come back positive, 1,026 have come back negative. There are an estimated 130 tests that are still pending results, according to the health district.

Around 10.6 percent of completed tests have come back positive, down from 13.6 percent at the end of March and nearing the statewide average, which was 8.6 percent in early April, when last reported by the state Department of Health. Public health officials have previously expressed concern about Grant County’s outsized rate of positive tests.

Just over 60 percent of confirmed cases thus far have been women, while almost 80 percent have been 60 years old or younger. Two Grant County residents confirmed to have been infected with the novel coronavirus, a man in his 60s and a man in his 80s, have died, according to the health district.

In Adams County, two new cases were reported Monday evening, both of which are Othello residents, according to the Adams County Health Department. There are also 41 tests pending results, 24 of which are considered probable cases.

Two Adams County residents sickened with the novel coronavirus are currently hospitalized, while 15 have recovered enough to no longer be placed under quarantine.

Othello continues to be a hotbed for cases in the county, with 36 of the county’s 40 confirmed cases located in that community. The Lind and Ritzville areas are each reporting two cases total.

Men and women have been equally likely to test positive for the novel coronavirus in Adams County as of Monday evening, while almost 73 percent are 60 years old or younger.
