OTHELLO — The American Legion summer baseball season in Washington was canceled last week, following cancellation of the national World Series and regional tournaments a few days prior.

States were allowed to choose how to handle their own tournaments, with Washington deciding on going ahead and canceling the season. Teams are allowed to decide independently how they’d like to handle their regular season schedules, operating like a travel club.

Red Raiders head coach Sonny Garza said the team will try to pick the schedule back up once it’s allowed to play again after closures have been lifted. Garza said he will need to discuss with parents how they want to proceed once everything is set, but knows his team would like to get some games in this year.

Central Washington Spuds coach Steve Keller said one main issue will be the availability of fields once closures have been lifted. Many teams in Central Washington, including the Red Raiders and Spuds, are intent on picking their schedules up as soon as they can get on the diamond this summer.
