SANDPOINT — A new case of novel coronavirus emerged in Kootenai County over the weekend, while no new cases were discovered in Bonner County, according to the Panhandle Health District.
There are 49 cases of coronavirus in Kootenai County and four in Bonner County, the health district said. Coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, has not turned up in Boundary, Shoshone or Benewah counties, according to PHD.
All four cases in Bonner County are self-isolating and the Bonner County Operations Center reports that there does not appear to be community spread.
Statewide, the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare said there were 27 new lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus on Monday, bringing the statewide total number of cases to 1,453. The virus has claimed 33 lives in the Gem State, according to Health & Welfare.
Coronavirus has been detected in 32 of Idaho’s 44 counties. There have been 135 hospitalizations and 38 admissions to intensive-care units, Health & Welfare said. The number of cases among healthcare workers stands at 156.
A total of 12,284 tests have been conducted by commercial laboratories and another 2,830 tests have been done through the Idaho Bureau of Laboratories, Health & Welfare reports.
A total of 792 cases involve people between the ages of 18-49. Another 640 cases involve people over the age of 50 and 20 cases involve people under the age of 18.
Broken down according to sex, 749 cases — roughly 52 percent — involve women and 697 cases — or roughly 48 percent — involve men, according to statistics kept by Health & Welfare.
In the Panhandle, the virus has afflicted 23 people over the age of 50 and 21 people between the ages of 18-49. Five of the panhandle cases involve minors, according to the health district.
Twenty-nine men in the Panhandle have contracted the virus, while 20 women have been infected, the health district said.
There have been no fatalities due to the virus in Idaho’s five northern counties.
In Washington state, the Northeast Tri-County Health District reported that the disease claimed its first life in Stevens County. The patient had been in critical condition, the health district said.
“With this loss being deeply felt by our entire community, this is an unfortunate reminder of the importance of staying home, social distancing and only going out for essential activities. We must continue our efforts to protect each other and our communities during this outbreak,” NETCHD said in a statement.
