MOSES LAKE — Replacement of some wastewater pipes in the Knolls Vista area should be completed by mid-May.
Currently, crews are replacing wastewater lines along North Central Drive near Knolls Vista Elementary School. The project also includes line replacement on Knolls Vista Drive, tying into a lift station on Northshore Drive. A lift station pumps untreated water from a lower elevation to a higher elevation.
City engineer Richard Law said replacing the old lines will allow the city to close a lift station in the Knolls Vista area. The project includes installation of about 1,700 feet of 15-inch sewer line, 1,700 feet of eight-inch sewer line, five new manholes and five new stormwater catch basins. The new system will be able to take better advantage of gravity to help move water, Law said.
A second wastewater project is underway on Wheeler Road, A new “force main” is being installed to improve water flows. Force mains use pumps and compressors to move untreated water through the wastewater pipes to the lift stations.
The goal is to improve service along Wheeler Road, for existing customers and new businesses, and provide capacity for development.
Advanced Excavation, of Moses Lake, is the contractor. The project is estimated to cost $488,679.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
