Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 4 years, 9 months AGO
Monty Joe Mercier passed on to heaven on April 15, 2020, with his daughter Barb and granddaughters Megan and Afton by his side.
He was born July 28, 1943, to Joseph and Wilma Patch Mercier in Sidney, Montana, the second of five children. He went to school in Sidney where he spent his younger years, and in 1962 moved with his family to Kalispell, where he graduated high school. He later took some college courses. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.
Monty was married four times to four beautiful women. He was blessed with children from each of those women: Barbara J. Mercier of Kalispell, Scott Davis of Spokane, Karla Page of Kalispell and Trevor of Shelby, Montana, as well as two stepchildren, Gary Herbst of Helena and Chasta Herbst of Sidney.
He worked as a mechanic in several gas stations and was quite good at it. He later worked for the aluminum plant in Columbia Falls. He retired in 2008 which was the beginning of many health issues.
Monty loved taking pictures of everything. He loved riding his Gold Wing motorcycle in the mountains. He collected matchbox cars and larger scaled ones. He also collected eagles as he loved the bald eagle.
He had a gentleness about him with animals that would make the most skittish animals walk right up to him. He loved animals.
He also loved a good joke and loved to tell them to get a smile out of others. He always had a big smile for anyone! He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
He leaves behind his four children, two stepchildren and their mother Janie Mercier of Sidney; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; his older brother Don of Nampa, Idaho; Timothy of Sidney; his sister Jody (Roger) Petersen of Sidney; and a very special friend Darlene and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister Maxine Goff, one great-grandchild, sister-in-law Mila Mercier, two stepchildren and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at Conrad Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. Remember good times with Monty and remember he loved everyone!
Arrangements are under the care of Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home and Crematory.
