SANDPOINT — Bonner County commissioners approved $1.37 million in contracts Tuesday for road materials.

The board approved a $884,375 contract with Idaho Asphalt for three types of oil products for use in chip sealing, pothole patching and bituminous surface treatments. It also awarded a $494,913 contract to Roadwise Inc. for magnesium chloride, which is used to control fugitive dust on gravel roads.

Also on the commission’s agenda was an amendment to the PacificSource Health Plan which expanded coverage for novel coronavirus testing, diagnosis and treatment for employees regardless of where they receive care. That item was approved, as was a $128,385 contract to Northwest Grading Inc. for obstruction removal at Priest River Airport.

Commissioners concluded the 14-minute meeting by cracking wise a little bit.

Treasurer Cheryl Piehl went before the board to transfer $200 from the treasurer’s account to the Weed Department for petty cash.

In moving to approve the request, Commissioner Steve Bradshaw noted, “And that’s not the toking kind of weed.”

Commissioner Jeff Connolly seconded the motion.

“We have a motion and a second. Any questions or comment...about $200 for weed?” Commission Chairman Dan McDonald said.
