NEW DDD PROCEDURE STARTS SUNDAY
Dialing the digit “1” first will be all there is to placing direct distance dialed calls for all area General Telephone customers starting Sunday. Each subscriber will receive a new number plate for their phones; the old system is gone forever when the new Coeur d’Alene toll center is activated. You no longer need to go through the operator to reach others on your party line. Just dial “9” and the number of the party you wish to reach. A busy tone will tell you the phone is ringing; hang up and wait until the other party has answered. Another new feature: by dialing “117,” you hear a recording of the correct time.
