ROYAL CITY — Sixteen teams of ropers from across Washington and Oregon came together at Stewart’s Arena in Royal City last weekend for the first Buckaroo Bash event.

Ryan and Jessica Stewart hosted the event at the family arena for the first time this summer, but said the response from participants was overwhelmingly positive.

“The positive feedback from the contestants and spectators, Buckaroo Bash might become a yearly event,” Jessica Stewart said. “We may even try to put on a couple more events, possibly even this fall.”

The sixteen teams, consisting of three members each, competed in ranch roping where each team must tie three calves, one steer and one cow. The team of Jorge Anguiano, Levi Stolen and Marco Mays finished with the fastest time, taking home the top prize for the weekend.

Prizes and cash were presented to the top three finishers for the weekend event.

In addition to being able to bring people together for the roping event, the Buckaroo Bash provided an opportunity for the community to honor some of the cowboys they’ve lost in the past year.

Riderless horses were accompanied around the arena in honor of Scott Gress, Lloyd Goroski and Larry Sather, with a short message of condolence shared by Ryan Stewart as well.

Overall, Stewart said their first weekend event was successful.

“We had a great turnout, awesome help, great roping and a fun time had by all,” Jessica Stewart said.
