WARDEN — A 55-year-old Kennewick man died Monday morning due to injuries suffered in a collision near Warden involving three vehicles.

James Boles was driving southbound on Road U Southeast on a 1999 Harley-Davidson about six miles north of Warden when he attempted to move around a slow-moving 2003 Peterbilt with a potato trailer, which was also driving southbound, according to Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to excessive speed during the maneuver, Boles laid down his motorcycle, which struck a left-rear wheel of the trailer, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Boles was ejected from the Harley and into the path of a northbound 2007 Freightliner. Boles died at the scene.

The driver of the Peterbilt did not know Boles had struck the trailer and continued south on Road U Southeast but returned to the scene once notified and cooperated with investigators, according to law enforcement.

The Harley was a total loss, according to the sheriff’s office, while the Peterbilt was not damaged and the Freightliner sustained minimal damage.

Boles was wearing a helmet. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Motor Traffic Unit continued to investigate the incident Monday.
