Legacy Golf Course hosted second annual Special Olympics fundraising tournament last weekend

OTHELLO — Golfers came out early Saturday morning to The Legacy Golf Course and Resort at Frenchman Hills for its second annual Special Olympics Fundraising Tournament.
Money raised from the two-man scramble tournament will go toward the Special Olympics organization. Fifteen teams of golfers came out for the tournament on Saturday. Legacy Pro Shop Manager Noelle Beaushaw said she felt the tournament went very well considering everything going on.
“I think it went very well, very smoothly,” Beaushaw said. “They’re always very crazy until the shotgun start, getting everyone on the same page. But I think it went really well.”
Beaushaw said the fundraising tournament raised about $2,000 for the Special Olympics organization. Due to the coronavirus, athletes from the Special Olympics were unable to come out and attend the tournament this year. Beaushaw said they’re looking to come back even bigger next year due to the restrictions on this year’s event.
Despite the restrictions, Beaushaw said she was touched to still have so many participants come out to help with the fundraiser.
“A good part of them were our members, and then we were able to bring in some public that had been to our course a couple times a week,” Beaushaw said. “I was very happy and honored to do that. I was proud that they gave their time and money to do that.”
Golfers weren’t able to gather at the end of the tournament due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Beaushaw said she feels golfers are conditioned to that now.
“For the most part, I think people do understand, and if we want to continue to do tournaments, we have to do it in a safe manner,” Beaushaw said. “People are pretty understanding for the most part from what I can see.”
