WALLACE — The Sixth Street Melodrama kicked off its August production last weekend with its new original production “Bernie, Get a Beau -or- Salt and Sugar Look the Same.”

Written and directed by Sixth Street veteran Lisa Siri, the play follows Bud Bourdreaux as he navigates the trials of being a single father.

“Bud is struggling to raise his daughter as a proper lady and desperately wants her to become more ladylike,” co-director Nicole Delbridge explained. “Instead, she is business savvy and more concerned with pursuing her dreams of being an entrepreneur. Her brother on the other hand enjoys house chores and cooking. Will their father Bud be able to convince his daughter to get a beau and his son to prefer more masculine activities?”

The talented cast includes both Siri and Delbridge — as well as Charlie Briante, Savannah Hess, Jordan Grubbs and Garyk McGillivray, with Tamara Lindroos accompanying on the piano.

Accompanying this production will be a musical revue where the actors perform classic songs such as “Blue Skies” and “Smile” along with a variety of comedic skits.

This is Siri’s first play that she has written and the second time as the director, and is excited for the opportunity to get back on stage in Wallace and provide some entertainment during these rather dour times.

“I came back after a hiatus in 2018 and was inspired by the actors and the history,” Siri said. “This play has a different take and a moral to it, including how certain things are only skin deep. I couldn’t do any of this without Nicole (Delbridge), she’s been so helpful. Being involved in the melodrama is such a great thing to do.”

“Bernie, Get a Beau -or- Salt and Sugar Look the Same” will run at the Sixth Street Melodrama for the month of August, with shows Wednesday through Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Masks are required and ticket sales will be limited to half capacity. Tickets are $10 each, but a discount can be given to groups of 10 or more.

For more information about reserving your tickets, you can visit the theater’s website at www.sixthstreetmelodrama.com or call 208-752-8871.
