Seven more federally recognized tribes and villages in Alaska, Idaho and Oregon were awarded a total of $6.3 million in Indian Community Development Block Grant funds appropriated to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development by the CARES Act to address problems that pose an imminent threat to the public health or safety of Tribal residents.

The Coeur d’Alene Tribal Housing Authority received $900,000. It will use the grant to acquire land to construct 10 housing units, which will provide temporary lodging to families impacted by COVID-19.

This is the fifth round of CARES Act ICDBG funds awarded to Tribes and Villages by HUD. In the prior four funding rounds, 19 Alaska tribes and villages have been awarded $25.7 million, two Idaho tribes have been awarded $2.7 million, two Oregon tribes have been awarded $1.8 million and six Washington tribes have been awarded $6.4 million in ICDBG funds.

“Today’s grant announcement will help families throughout Indian Country to access essential resources amid the coronavirus outbreak,” said HUD Secretary Ben Carson.
