PHD: 30 new COVID-19 cases emerge

SANDPOINT — The Panhandle Health District reported 30 new confirmed or probable new cases of novel coronavirus on Friday, which includes three new cases in Bonner County.
The district said there are 2,434 coronavirus cases in the five northern counties, 2,415 of which were confirmed through laboratory analysis. The district said 1,551 cases are considered closed, meaning infected residents are no longer being monitored, have refused monitoring or have died.
The virus, which causes COVID-19, is blamed for 24 deaths in the Panhandle. Twenty of the deaths were in Kootenai County, while three were in Shoshone County and one was in Benewah County, according to PHD.
Bonner County has seen 192 cases since the pandemic began, 186 of which are lab-confirmed and 59 of which are deemed active.
Kootenai County added 23 new cases on Friday, bringing that county’s total to 1,952 cases. The district said 1,939 cases are lab-confirmed and 660 are active.
Boundary County saw no new infections on Friday. There have been 39 cases, all of which are lab-confirmed and 22 of which are active, according to PHD.
Shoshone County added three new cases on Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 161 since the pandemic began. The district said all of the cases are lab-confirmed and 108 of the cases are active.
Benewah County also saw no new infections on Friday, the health district said. All of Benewah County’s cases are lab-confirmed and 27 are active.
The virus has caused 138 hospitalizations in the Panhandle since the outbreak and 24 people are currently hospitalized, PHD said.
There are an additional 20 cases involving persons whose primary county of residency is undetermined. All 20 cases are lab-confirmed and seven cases remain active, the district said.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare said 542 new probable or confirmed cases of the virus emerged on Friday, elevating the statewide total to 27,173 cases since the pandemic began. The virus has claimed the lives of 265 Idahoans, according to Health & Welfare.
The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Washington state tallied one new confirmed case in Stevens County on Friday. There are 182 confirmed cases in Pend Oreille, Stevens and Ferry counties. Pend Oreille County has accrued 46 confirmed cases since the outbreak began, while Stevens County has had 112 confirmed cases in one fatality. Ferry County has had 24 confirmed cases.
Three Pend Oreille County residents remain hospitalized and five Stevens County residents remain hospitalized, according to NETCHD.
The Montana State Department of Public Health said there were 134 new confirmed cases, bringing the statewide total to 5,541 confirmed cases. Lincoln County has seen 78 cases over the course of the pandemic, though only nine remain active. Sanders County has had 11 cases, two of which remain active, according to the state.
