SANDPOINT — A Sandpoint man was arrested Wednesday on an Oregon warrant alleging more than a dozen sex crimes.

Preston Lee Carter was arrested without incident at his home. When advised of the $150,000, Carter expressed a measure of disbelief.

“He stated that he thought all of that was finished,” a deputy quoted Carter saying in an arrest report.

A Harney County grand jury in Burns indicted Carter on 14 felony and misdemeanor sex charges. They include multiple counts of sexual abuse in the first, second and third degrees, rape in the second and third degrees, sexual misconduct and contributing to the sexual delinquency of minors, according to court documents.

The arrest warrant was issued on July 16.

Carter, 19, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Thursday via video link with the county jail. He advised the court he will confer with his attorney before making a decision to willingly return to Oregon to face the charges.

Carter has no prior criminal charges in Idaho or Oregon, according to each state’s iCourt database.
