Election 2020, Political Conventions, ADVISORY
Columbia Basin Herald | UPDATED 4 years, 5 months AGO
The Democratic National Convention takes place this Monday through Thursday, with events and speeches that will be conducted almost entirely virtually. The Republican National Convention takes place the following week, Monday, Aug. 24 through Thursday, Aug. 27.
Both parties have dramatically altered their conventions because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Democrats have cancelled in-person events that were scheduled to be held in Milwaukee, shifting to a virtual convention. Republicans plan to hold their first day’s proceedings in Charlotte, North Carolina, where delegates will vote to renominate President Trump. Details and timing for the rest of the RNC have not yet been released.
For the DNC, activities are set for 9-11 p.m. ET each night. Joe Biden plans to accept his party’s nomination from Wilmington, Delaware, on Thursday, the final night of the convention. The timing of Biden’s speech has not yet been released. His vice presidential pick, Kamala Harris, speaks on Wednesday night from Wilmington. The timing of her speech has also not yet been released.
