QUINCY — Police on Monday named the person — Abel Vargas, 29, of Quincy — whose body was found Friday in the area of Rocky Avenue Northeast, according to a Quincy Police Department statement. Vargas was reportedly shot once in the head.
He was last seen at the Rocky Avenue Northeast residence of Martin Diaz, 30, on Aug. 8, after being dropped off by a friend. Vargas was reportedly found dead in Diaz’s bedroom Aug. 12, kicking off a countywide search for Diaz, who was found the next day by Moses Lake police.
Quincy Police had responded to a call at around 9:30 p.m., Aug. 12, in the 700 block of Rocky Avenue Northeast about a large bag and a foul odor emanating from Diaz’s bedroom. According to Quincy Police Chief Kieth Siebert, the call came from a family member.
A body police found in the bag was reportedly in such a condition that it was not immediately possible to identify the gender, police said. The autopsy that identified Vargas was performed by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to Quincy Police.
“Detectives have been in communication with Mr. Vargas’ family and will continue to help provide answers into his death,” Quincy Police stated in a public notice. “This is a horrible crime and our hearts go out to everyone involved and many prayers to Mr. Vargas’s family and friends as they deal with his passing.”
