RITZVILLE — Incumbent John Marshall will be challenged by Dan Blankenship in the race for Adams County commissioner, District 1, in the general election in November. Marshall and Blankenship received the highest number of votes in the primary election, which was certified Tuesday.
Blankenship finished the primary with 1,093 votes, or 56 percent, and Marshall received 462, or 24 percent. A third candidate, Glen Stockwell, received 375 votes, or 19 percent.
Jay Weise and Ken Johnson will advance to the general election in the race for Adams County commissioner, District 2. Weise received 486 votes, or 63 percent, and Johnson 269, or 35 percent, in the primary.
One of the two Washington House of Representatives seats in the Ninth District and the district’s Senate seat will be contested races. In both cases, two candidates were running and advance to the general election.
Incumbent Mary Dye finished well ahead of challenger Brett Borden in the primary for House of Representatives, Position No. 1. In Adams County, Dye received 2,861 votes, or 86 percent, to 446 votes, or 13 percent, for Borden. In the Ninth District as a whole, Dye received 29,082 votes, or 77 percent, and Borden received 7,889 votes, or 21 percent.
In the general election race for the Ninth District seat in the Washington Senate, Mark Schoesler, the incumbent, will be challenged by Jenn Goulet. Schoesler received 2,744 votes, or 79 percent, and Goulet received 702 votes, or 20 percent, in Adams County in the primary. In the Ninth District as a whole, Schoesler received 26,729 votes, or 67 percent, and Goulet 12,783, or 32 percent.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
