Mercer is medalist, Wolfpack boys second at G Falls golf

GREAT FALLS – Flathead High School’s Marcella Mercer took medalist honors and the Glacier High boys were second in the team race at the Great Falls Invitational meet held Monday at Meadow Lark Country Club.

Mercer fired a 75 to take a four-shot victory over Billings Senior’s Kenzie Walsh. The next highest finisher from Kalispell was Glacier’s Chloe Tanner, who was tied for 12th at 86.

Glacier had a couple top-25 finishers in Alana Griffin (87) and Stella Claridge (94). Flathead’s Jillian Wynne had an 87 as well.

Bozeman High School won the girls’ team race at 338; Glacier was sixth at 379 and Flathead was ninth at 403.

Bozeman Gallatin took the boys’ team title at 238, with twins Justus and Jordan Verge tying for medalist honors at 69. Justus Verge won the scorecard playoff.

With Ezra Epperly shooting a 74 – good for fourth – Flathead tied for fourth in the boys’ team race with Helena Capital at 329.

Meanwhile the Glacier Wolfpack ended with 312 strokes among its top four scorers – Tyler Avery (76), Will Salonen (76), Coby Kunda (79) and Keaton Cassidy (81) all finished between sixth and 23rd.

For Flathead Drew Lowery (83) and Kadin Gall (84) finished just outside the top 25. Joston Cripe had an 88.
