The popular Avalanche Lake Trail was reopened last week after being closed to hikers by a roaming grizzly bear.

The bear rambled down the shoreline of the lake and a creek, scattering hikers in its wake.

Some folks even apparently swam the lake to avoid the bear, which didn’t actually hurt anyone.

The Hungry Horse News was at the lake at the time of the bear encounter.

The trail remains posted for bear activity as the trail goes into the heart of excellent bear habitat.
