Charles E. Lantto passed away at the age of 87 on August 11, 2020, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Charles was born June 18, 1933, in Calumet, Michigan, to Roy and Ina (Kintola) Lantto. Charles grew up in Coos Bay, Oregon. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.

Shortly after being honorably discharged, Charles met Beverly Pierce. They were married on August 23, 1957. They would go on to have five children. Twins, Lonnie and Linda, were born on April 24, 1958. Unfortunately, due to a premature birth, Lonnie passed away shortly after birth. Lori was born on July 7, 1959, followed by Robert on October 8, 1961, and William on July 9, 1963. Charles and his family relocated to Sandpoint, Idaho, in 1971 working for the city. Charles and Beverly divorced in 1974. Charles moved to Portland, Oregon in 1978 where he worked for the city of Portland until retiring.

Due to health issues, including a battle with Parkinson’s disease, he relocated to Coeur d’Alene in 2014 to be closer to his family.

Charles enjoyed spending his free time traveling to see family. He was also a gambler, spending a lot of free time traveling to casinos, where he was an avid poker player.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Roy; his mother, Ina (Kintola); children, Lonnie Dean Lantto and Linda Lee Smith (Lantto); and brother, Robert Lantto. Charles is survived by his daughter, Lori Alcantara (David) of Rathdrum, Idaho; his sons, Robert Lantto of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and William Lantto of Post Falls, Idaho; his brothers, Gerald Lantto of Coos Bay, Ore., and Dale Lucas of Coos Bay, Ore,; his sisters, Barbara Harmon of Culver City, Calif., and Judy Stoller of North Hollywood, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be announced at a later date. Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with final arrangements.
