City opens survey on arts, culture

SANDPOINT — The city of Sandpoint recently initiated a planning process to create its first Arts, Culture and Historic Preservation Master Plan. The city engaged Lakota Group and Surale Phillips to conduct a citywide cultural arts assessment, assess the city’s historic preservation program and policies, establish historic contexts for the city, make recommendations and set goals for arts, culture, and historic preservation.

Communities like Sandpoint understand that arts, culture and history contribute to community vitality in many different ways. The current phase in the planning process includes public participation and input to identify preservation and cultural arts strengths, opportunities, priorities, aspirations, and desired results to shape and enhance the city’s character and quality of life. This phase will culminate with the delivery of a state of the city report incorporating public input, a review and assessment of the local historic preservation and arts and culture programs, establishment of a preservation and arts and culture vision statement, and recommended key preservation and arts and culture plan goals and strategic priorities.

As with other City planning projects, community engagement is at the heart of the project. The City has launched its latest survey on Open Town Hall and invite the public to participate in the planning process by completing the questionnaire at https://www.opentownhall.com/9473.

The survey includes an option to add your contact information in the event that you would like to be involved in future planning outreach and opportunities as well. The survey will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on August 28, 2020.
