Last season, the 2019 rendition of Lady Pirates soccer (4-9) advanced to the playoffs as third seed, but were dispatched in the opening round by Eastern A top-seeded Billings Central, State A champions nine of the past dozen seasons.

The Lady Pirates (2019:28g15a) graduated a lone senior in defender Micaela Redwine (1sv), lending to great expectations for the upcoming season.

Lady Pirate girls soccer returns a quintet of accolade accentuated contributors.

These include team leading scorer, all-state, twice all-conference (1st-tm 2019, 2nd-tm 2018) junior forward Sophia Moderie (2019:18g6a), thrice all-conference (1st-tm 2018, 2nd-tm 2017, hm 2019) senior defender Lilly Armstrong, thrice all-conference (2nd-tm 2019-18, hm 2017) senior keeper/defender Megan Rost (2019:38sv,>10h), all-conference (2nd-tm) senior forward Autumn Burland (2019:8g2a) along with all-conference (2nd-tm) senior mid Ali Hupka (2019:1g2a).

A quartet of other returnees either factored into the scoring with goals or dished out assists.

Polson girls soccer embarks upon a new era as Trever Moll takes over the reins after the three-year tenure of Jaime Whealon, who relocated out of state.

Under Whealon, the Lady Pirates secured a playoff berth each season as a third-seed, accruing a cumulative 16-21-2 record.

Moll (PHS 2007-10: a-s, 2x a-c) was former boys assistant coach the past four seasons under Adam Fansher, played collegiate soccer at Northwest University as well as a couple of seasons with the semi-pro Seattle Stars and was renouned for his footwork finesse as a player. He will be assisted by Skye McMaster.

Reflecting upon the cancellations of the spring sports season and numerous programs shifting fall sports competition to the spring, Moll and his players “are extremely grateful to get to play in these uncertain times. We are working hard and looking to do quite well this season with all of our incredible returning talent.”

The Lady Pirate girls are slated to open the 2020 season at home Tuesday, Sept. 1, as they face the visiting Stevensville Lady Yellowjackets. Uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic may precipitate modifications to scheduling.
