In a press release from the Boundary County Sherriff’s Office, a detention deputy tested positive for COVID-19.

The deputy suffering from COVID-19 only suffered minor symptoms and did not require hospitalization and is expected to return to work next week after being cleared.

The name of the deputy has not been released at this time.

The Boundary Sherriff’s Department has been advised by the Panhandle Health District to identify and test any employees that have been in contact with the deputy.

According to Boundary County Sherriff, Dave Kramer, there have not been any other individuals who tested positive for COVID-19.

The press release states Pandhandle Health District does not believe there is a risk for inmates; as a precaution, testing on inmates is being conducted as an added measure of safety.

The Boundary County District Court, since the start of the pandemic, has scheduled more individuals to appear later in court or released individuals on a verbal promise to appear on their required court date.

“We are still housing inmates and still bringing people to jail when needed,” Kramer said.
