BONNERS FERRY — Second Chance Animal Adoption Shelter received more than $2,000 in donations from a fundraiser organized by Cheryl Britton, Deborah Griffin and Lori Werder.

These women worked with local community members to raffle off prizes and conducted a bake sale at Super 1 grocery store and surpassed their fundraising goal.

The first year the three ladies raised $1,500, second-year $1,700, but in the third year, they raised $2,197 for Second Chance Animal Shelter.

The bake sale received baked goods from bakers Candi Doolin and Jeanine Betsher, who made delicious pastries and sweets; the bake sale fundraiser did not set a particular price but requested whatever donations felt appropriate by the people.

When asked about their hard work, Britton, Griffin and Werder were quick to point out the support of the community stakeholders such as Carter Country, Dr. Marty Becker, Grocery Outlet Jan Stossel of JS Design, Stitch Cards, Mi Pueblo, and Super 1 Foods.

The raffle featured an anonymously donated custom Glenn Aviritt Knife, which was won by Brody Wies.

The three raffle winners of the Carter Country Baskets went to Kristin James, Laura Sekon and Piper Banning.

According to Britton, Griffin and Werder, the goal was to beat the previous year and quickly surpassed their goals. The three women began their charity as a positive opportunity to help the community but what began as a simple activity has become so much more.

Many puppies and kittens will benefit from the money raised and help feed, house, and treat their animal residents at Second Chance animal adoption shelter.
