In loving memory of Shirley Louise (Reynolds) Hamacher

December 4, 1941 – August 22, 2020

Shirley was born in Priest River, Idaho; and died peacefully at home, in the company of her family. She was the youngest of 10 children to John and Olive Reynolds. Shirley married Ed Hamacher, from Oldtown, Idaho, in 1959; and graduated from Priest River High School in 1960. They had three children: Tina Hamacher (of Hayden, Idaho), Pam (Mike) Roark (of Kelseyville, California) and Gene (Jeanne) Hamacher (of Liberty Lake, Washington).

Shirley is survived by her husband Ed, their three children, two grandchildren, three great- grandchildren, and a ridiculous number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Shirley was not only a loving wife and great mother; she also had a successful career in marketing and hotel management. She worked at Schweitzer Ski Resort for 19 years; starting in ticket sales, then executive assistant, to the head of sales and marketing. Working at Schweitzer also enabled family and friends to become avid skiers.

After leaving Schweitzer, Shirley worked in marketing for Cavanaugh’s Hotels in Spokane; and the Hotel Group in Renton, Washington. Her next move was into hotel management; which included managing hotels in Mount Vernon, Washington; Tyler, Texas; Schweitzer; Idaho Falls; and Lynnwood, Washington. In most of these hotels, Ed worked on the hotel’s maintenance. We’re still not sure how this worked so well, for so many years; but she always had that smile on her face, and her contagious laugh.

Shirley tried retiring to their home near Hope, Idaho; but this only lasted about 12.5 seconds. She went back to work, selling homes at North Venture in Sagle, during the summers. About this time, Shirley and Ed started traveling south to Arizona, California and Nevada for the winters. They continued this seasonal pilgrimage for 25 years; spending time in Golden Shores, Arizona, and Twentynine Palms Golf Resort, California. As they traveled around, Shirley always found time to gather with family and friends; or for a bit of line dancing.

Shirley and Ed relocated to Hayden in 2016, to be closer to the conveniences of the civilized world. This move enabled her to frequently enjoy another passion — golfing. She made many great friends through golf; especially with the Hidden Lakes Ladies Club.

Although she lived in Hayden, she often returned to Sandpoint to participate in events with Angels Over Sandpoint.

A celebration of a “Life Well Lived” will begin at 2 p.m., August 30, 2020 at the Priest River Event Center; with time for socializing after.

Out of concern for the health of others; we respectfully require that you wear a face mask when attending (masks will be available).

Instead of flowers; the family asks that you donate to Angels Over Sandpoint, or Priest River Animal Rescue.
