They might be unsigned, and a little unsung.

Not for long.

The bands that will take over the Rotary Lakeside Bandshell in Coeur d'Alene City Park this weekend are well on their way to becoming household names.

"We do everything we can to put our best presentation forward," Bored With Fire lead singer/rhythm guitar player Shane Devlin said Thursday. "Our only goal is we want to be a well-known local band that has fun shows."

Bored With Fire is one of five Inland Northwest bands and musicians that will perform from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the inaugural Unsigned Artists Music Festival.

The energetic Inland Northwest skate punk band is ready to deliver a memorable performance as the closing act.

"We’re really excited to be chosen and to be the last band to play, and as probably the wildest," Devlin said. "We're hoping for a really good turnout."

A brainchild of show organizer and musician Ed Graves — whose band Vinyl Instinct will also perform — the Unsigned Artists Music Festival is an opportunity for lesser-known musical acts from the area to command the stage, play a public venue and share their talents with future fans.

"This is for the community to hear these newly emerging artists," Graves said.

And these aren't just play-for-fun garage bands that will perform, Graves said.

"They had to have at least a recorded CD out in the last two years," he said. "They have to play at least 20 shows a year, meaning they’re dedicated and they’re really trying to do something."

Bored With Fire formed early last year after Devlin put out a call for other experienced musicians to join him in a new group that celebrates the skate punk sound. He and his bandmates have recorded two EPs, with the next, "Red," to be recorded in early September.

"We’re going to play new songs that we've never played live," Devlin said. "'Finger Pistols' will be the first song that we play. I’m really excited to see how the crowd likes that one."

Each act will have about 45 minutes to perform. The lineup also includes the Matt Renner Band, Dallas Kay and the Wow Wows.

The festival is completely free and open to all ages. Everyone who attends is expected to follow COVID-19 safety measures and social distance. Free masks and hand-sanitizing stations will be provided.

Graves said the most important thing he wants people to know is that this will be a safe event.

"We strongly encourage them to practice safe protocol," he said. "Social distance, if you forget your mask, there will be two stations where there are some."

Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Several food and craft vendors will be on site. Band merchandise will be available for purchase.

The event will also be streamed online.
