COEUR d'ALENE - The organizer of a protest march downtown Saturday night was arrested before the event.
According to Capt. Dave Hagar, Casey Whalen was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on a charge of falsifying, mutilating or concealing public records or written instruments. He couldn't confirm the incident that led to the charge.
Whalen had called for the march, dubbed "Open Carry If You Care," on Facebook. The focus was constitutional rights, including the right to open carry.
"It was a very peaceful event," Hagar said Saturday night. He said he had reports of about 50 people walking up and down Sherman Avenue until 7 p.m., when participants quietly broke up and went their separate ways.
