Opening of Moses Lake managed shelterless camp delayed again

MOSES LAKE — The opening of the Moses Lake sleeping center, a managed camp for those without shelter, located on the corner of East Broadway Avenue and state Route 17, has been pushed back to next week due to delays in acquiring all of the required facilities, according to a city official.
The camp, made up of 35 cabin-like units, an administrative office and bathrooms connected to water and sewer services, has been pushed back several times, said Housing and Grants Coordinator Taylor Burton in an interview.
After originally being scheduled to open Nov. 1, then delayed to mid-November and again to Dec. 1, the latest push backs are due to difficulties acquiring the administrative offices and bathrooms, Burton said. Both facilities will be in place Dec. 7, and the bathrooms will need to be connected to city services, he said.
Though city officials originally expected the site to open last month with 20 of the 35 units, all units will be available when it opens next week, Burton added.
As the facility prepares to open, volunteers are still needed, as well as donations of new bath towels, Burton said.
