Leadership/Sources of Strength students from Coeur d'Alene and Lake City high schools teamed up for a successful Fill the Bus food drive Nov. 16 through 20.

Together, the schools collected 4,134 pounds of food that went to the Community Action Partnership Coeur d'Alene Food Bank. Monetarily, a combined total of $2821.11 was collected that will also be donated to the food bank.

The event was held "to come together to create unity and a sense of community," CHS leadership teacher Natalie Walters said.

"I am beyond proud of my students’ hard work and our schools showcasing that we are stronger together," said Brittany Pfundheller, LCHS Sources of Strength adviser.

Every $1 raised will buy 10 pounds of food, so everything combined will provide 32,345.1 pounds of food for community members in need.

"This was a lot of work and effort from rival schools who came together to support our community," Pfundheller said. "I am so proud of these students and their hard work and generosity!"

Cruising around a tall pine with a small measuring tape, Ava Stone examined the numbers and wrote them down on a paper secured to her clipboard. "It's the diameter, and then you take a clinometer from the 66 foot back and then the 100 foot back, then you look up and get the height to find out the board foot volume," she said Thursday morning.
