HAYDEN — A Coeur d'Alene man died in a single-car crash late Tuesday.

Ronald M. Curry, 40, was killed when the 2016 BMW M5 he was driving eastbound on Orchard Avenue at a high rate of speed left the roadway, went airborne, and struck several trees at Maple Avenue about 11:30 p.m., according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office.

A passenger, Jakob P. Trautuetter, 21, Coeur d’ Alene, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Kootenai Health.

The KCSO and Northern Lakes Fire and Rescue responded to the intersection of Maple and Orchard. Curry was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The initial investigation has determined that both alcohol and speed played a factor in the accident," a press release said.

It also said Curry failed to stop at the intersection.

An investigation continues.
