Dec. 3, 1970 – SCHWEITZER OPEN

Schweitzer Basin was able to open Nov. 29, the final day of the Thanksgiving vacation weekend, becoming the first area ski resort to open for the winter on a regular basis. An estimated 1,000 skiers enjoyed the slopes opening day. Now Schweitzer is in even better shape, as another eight inches of snow fell there Monday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Anglin and daughter, Tia, were in Forks, Wash., on Thanksgiving for the 50th wedding anniversary of Dale’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Anglin, Sr. The reception took place in the home of the senior Anglins’ daughter, Mrs. Dell Colburn.

HADLEYS CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hadley celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov. 22 at the VFW Hall, with 75 relatives attending a reunion and buffet style dinner served by the VFW Auxiliary. An open house followed from 3 to 5 p.m. Ethel Garrison and Ralph Hadley were married in Sandpoint on Nov. 25, 1920. Mr. Hadley was associated many years with Frazier Grocery and then with Diehl Lumber Co. at Plains, Mont. until his retirement. All of their six children (Eileen Baldwin, Margaret Stevens, Lucille Allen and Duane Hadley, all of Sandpoint; Glenn Hadley, Thompson Falls, Mont.; and Raymond Hadley, Bakersfield, Calif.) attended.

Dec. 3, 1920 – LOCAL BRIEFS

Tom Anglin, 21, and Hazel Shaw, 17, were married the 24th by Justice of the Peace Bowden.

W.R. Hadley, 22, and Miss Ethel A. Garrison, 17, have been licensed to marry.

Fred Abromeit, Spokane, and Mrs. Mary Lutzke of Westmond were married in Spokane Saturday.

MAY YET BE LAKE FRONT PARK

At the Chamber of commerce directors meeting, the lake front park issue was discussed. Major Chaffins was employed to do a survey and make topographic maps of the entire lake front. This new action in regard to utilizing the lake front for a city park came about through the instrumentality of T.J. Humbird, who when approached in regard to his offer of a park on north Boyer, said he would give the land for a city park but thought the city might do better. He unfolded his plan and agreed to assist getting possession of the lake front, and this is now the chamber’s intention. The matter had been talked over last summer but it was concluded that the cost of making a park there would be too great.

WESTMOND NEWS

The Literary will be held at Westmond Saturday night. The subject for debate is: “Resolved: That Old Maids Are More Detriment to the Country Than Old Bachelors,” a very interesting subject.
