MOSES LAKE — A Mattawa teenager was hospitalized early Saturday morning and later released after a reported shooting in the Larson community north of Moses lake, according to a Grant County Sheriff’s Office release. No one else was reportedly injured.

Deputies responded after reports of gunshots near the 1000 block of Vandenburg Loop shortly after midnight. A deputy nearby heard the shots at around 12:30 a.m., saw and stopped the victim’s vehicle as it was leaving the area, according to the press release.

One of two teenage boys in the vehicle reportedly had a gunshot wound to his back in what appeared to have been a drug deal gone wrong, the release stated. The injured person was transported to Samaritan Hospital, where he was later released.

According to the sheriff’s office, the two teenagers drove to the Larson community from Mattawa after arranging a drug buy over social media. The person who shot at them allegedly was a male of unknown age and fled on a black bicycle, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the GCSO.

The victim’s vehicle has been impounded pending a search warrant, and an investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
