Irene Sylvia (Moen) Lovejoy

Irene Sylvia Lovejoy (née Moen) of Sandpoint, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, following a wonderful life of 94 years.

Irene was born on January 26, 1926, in Brookings, South Dakota, to Melvin and Clara Moen. She was raised on her parent’s farm in Brookings County South Dakota, South Lake Hendricks Township. She was always proud of her Norwegian heritage. She graduated from Hendricks (Minnesota) High School, Class of 1944. She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1946.

Irene married Charles Lovejoy, the love of her life, in 1948 and they had 58 wonderful years as partners. They raised their sons in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Irene’s career in clerical work included years with Honeywell Corporation.

After their retirements, Irene and Chuck moved west to be closer to their children and grandkids. They enjoyed many lovely summers in Hamilton, Montana, and winters in Sun City West, Arizona. Irene moved to Sandpoint in 2007 after Chuck passed away.

Irene loved to help others, was known for her kind ways, and volunteered in various capacities at church and her community. She also loved to read, work puzzles, and keep a proud home. Irene was famous as the world’s best cookie baker.

Family was always her priority and she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She had deep bonds with friends and neighbors and was loved by all who knew her.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (AKA Chuck); parents Melvin and Clara Ronning Moen;, sister Corrine Moen Skogen; and brother Sylvester (Bob) Moen. She is survived by children, David and his wife Kate of Sandpoint, and Stuart and his wife Mary of Camano Island, Washington; grandchildren, Aaron Lovejoy, Eric Lovejoy (Carolina), and Emily Lovejoy Gourlie (Don), Jessica Enberg (Mike), Matthew Davlin (Rikki), and Krista Bradford (Jordan).

Irene was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, most recently the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint.
