SAGLE — A jury trial is drawing closer for a Bonner County woman accused of accidentally hitting and killing her husband with a sport utility vehicle earlier this year.

Frythe Kathleen Peine is charged with vehicular manslaughter at the felony level in connection with the July 31 collision which killed Kraig Peine. Her trial is set for Feb. 8, 2021, court records show.

An Idaho State Police report alleges Frythe Peine, 47, ran her husband down on Lakeshore Drive near Greenwood Hill Drive with her Mercedes Benz GLK350 after an argument inside the SUV. State police said Kraig Peine had exited the vehicle and was walking down the road when he was struck and killed.

Frythe Peine told state police she did not see her husband and may have been looking at her phone when she struck him, ISP said. Frythe Peine admitted consuming alcohol prior to the collision and rated her level of intoxication as a five on a 10-scale, according to court documents.

Frythe Peine waived her right to a preliminary hearing earlier this year and was bound over to stand trial in 1st District Court. She pleaded not guilty to the offense and is free on an $80,000 surety bond while the case is pending.

A conviction for felony vehicular manslaughter is punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $15,000 fine, according to Idaho Code.
