Law enforcement responds to fatal crash near Eastport

EASTPORT — Monday, Dec. 21 at approximately 9:37 a.m., law enforcement responded to a fatality crash on Highway 95 at milepost 532 just outside Eastport.
Shannon D. Taylor, 34, of Eastport, traveled southbound in her black 2007 Saturn Vue when the vehicle left the roadway, spanning approximately 174 feet off the highway and coming to rest fully submerged on its top in the river.
Shannon Taylor was pronounced deceased at the scene. Both occupants wore seat belts. Next of kin have been notified, the investigation is ongoing.
Shannon Taylor was an employee of Kootenai Mountain Laboratories near 3-mile area. The accident occurred in an area known for vehicles losing control or hydroplaning due to black ice.
The passenger, Alicia P. Taylor, 56, of Bonners Ferry, was transported by ground ambulance to Boundary Community Hospital, where she was then transported by air ambulance to Kootenai Health.
According to Andrea Kalas-Nagel, a spokeswoman at Kootenai Health, Alicia Taylor was listed in critical condition on Monday.
