SANDPOINT — The Bonner Community Food Bank is seeking donations to help provide for its roughly 1,200 monthly recipients.

During Christmas week, the food bank will be closed but donations can be dropped off at at Granite Aviation in Sandpoint to be delivered by members of the airport community.

Monetary contributions are one of the most effective ways to increase food supply, wrote Ken Larson, chief flight instructor and owner at Pilot Training Northwest.

“They have some buying power to get discounted prices, so a cash donation may be the most effective way to increase their food supplies,” he wrote. “They also have to pay rent and utilities, so money is good.”

Other donations the food bank needs include non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, canned vegetables and soup, and care packages which can be purchased at Yoke's Fresh Market and Super 1 grocery stores.

Other needs, which the food bank does not purchase but are in demand, include personal hygiene products, diapers and baby care items.

After this week, donations can be made directly to the food bank, which will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1707 Culvers Drive, behind UPS near the airport.
