COOLIN — A Priest Lake bartender conducted a citizen's arrest after he was allegedly attacked by a former coworker at Cavanaugh Bay bar early Sunday morning.
Jeremy Lane Powell is charged with misdemeanor battery, in addition to possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Powell, 26, made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday via video link with the county jail. Judge Tera Harden entered a no-contact order and Powell was released on his own recognizance, records show.
A Bonner County sheriff's deputy was summoned to Moose Knuckle Barbecue Burgers & Brews shortly after midnight. Powell, witnesses said entered the bar and began acting aggressively with staff.
The altercation transitioned from verbal to physical when Powell allegedly struck a bartender in the thigh or midsection, a court documents said. Two staff members had Powell pinned to the ground behind the bar at the time the deputy arrived.
While being escorted from the premises, Powell allegedly tried to kick the bartender, according to the affidavit.
The eyewitness accounts, meanwhile, were corroborated by video footage captured by cellphone from someone inside the bar, court records show.
The video, which has been seized as evidence, allegedly shows an intoxicated Powell berating staff, striking the bartender and swatting out of his hand a glass which shattered.
Powell was described as an employee of the establishment in court records, although the bar's owner has trespassed him from the premises.
A pre-trial hearing in the case is set for February 2021.
