RATHDRUM — A woman accused of fleeing a crash on State Highway 41 in August is facing an additional charge after one of the people hurt in the crash died.
Post Falls resident Kearen R. Young, 50, is charged with vehicular manslaughter, a felony.
Idaho State Police said 73-year-old Albert G. Galli and 49-year-old Amy L. Galli of Post Falls were riding a motorcycle together on Aug. 30, traveling southbound on SH-41, when Young failed to yield to traffic while turning west onto Village Boulevard.
The motorcycle reportedly hit Young’s vehicle on the passenger side.
The Gallis, who were both wearing helmets, were launched over the vehicle and landed on the road, police said. They were taken to Kootenai Health by ambulance.
Young reportedly left the scene.
Police later located and arrested her. She was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI and with leaving the scene of an injury accident, all felonies.
She was released the next day after posting $30,000 bail.
Young was previously convicted of driving under the influence in Arizona in 2006 and 2007, according to court documents. She was also reportedly convicted of DUI in Hawaii in 2006.
Albert Galli reportedly died in early November. After an autopsy was completed, prosecutors charged Young with vehicular manslaughter on Dec. 11, according to court documents.
A judge issued a $100,000 warrant for Young’s arrest on the same day.
Young reportedly turned herself in on Sunday.
