MOSES LAKE — Moses Lake girls basketball kept its win streak going on Saturday night as the Chiefs took care of Eisenhower, 72-32.
The Chiefs held a double-digit lead well before the end of the first, holding their opponent to single digits in the opening quarter. Anna Olson led the Moses Lake attack in the first half as she stayed blistering-hot from beyond the arc for the first 16 minutes. Olson grabbed 18 of her team-high 21 in the first half, doing most of her damage from distance.
“The main thing that we’ve noticed in the last four or five games is we’re assisting on about 75 percent of our baskets, and that’s really a big thing because 50 percent is really good,” head coach Matt Strophy said. “I’m really pleased with the way we’re sharing the ball. We’re being unselfish. It doesn’t matter who scores, it’s about winning the ball game and playing the best basketball we can.”
Moses Lake took a 43-21 advantage into the third quarter.
The Chiefs turned the defense up a notch in the second half, stifling the Cadet offense more than it already had been. Moses Lake held Eisenhower to just 11 points in the second half, while ballooning the lead to 40 by the end of the game.
Olson led the game and the Chiefs with 21. Camille Carpenter and Meagan Karstetter each finished in double-figures as well with 13 apiece. Senior point guard Madisyn Clark grabbed seven of her nine points in the first half while helping to orchestrate the Moses Lake attack.
The Chiefs have won seven-straight games after Saturday night, with just one loss in Columbia Basin Big Nine play. With just two games left on the regular season slate, Moses Lake head coach Matt Strophy said he believes his team is in a good place after the win over the Cadets Saturday.
Strophy said his team will look to ride the momentum they have into next week’s road tilt against West Valley (Yakima), with a potential regular season league title on the line. Strophy said he expects their opponent to look to establish an inside presence early with their size.
The Moses Lake coach said he’ll look for his girls to play physical out of the gate, while maintaining the focus they’ve had.
“On the road, that’s just one of those places we’ve been successful, but we struggle to play at West Valley,” Strophy said. “But we’ve just gotta keep our minds right and our eyes on the prize, and I think we’ll be fine.”
The Chiefs will travel to West Valley for their next game next Friday night, with tipoff set for 5:45 p.m.
